Sandblasting

Sandblasting in New Plymouth

If it has rust, old paint or a coating on it, we can take it back to clean bare metal. Our blasting bay is at Bell Block, alongside the powder coating ovens, so most jobs get blasted and coated in the same place without going anywhere in between.

What fits

This is the first thing most people want to know, so here it is up front. Our blasting bay is 4.5 m wide, 2.3 m high, and takes work up to 6 m long. That covers gates, trailer chassis, balustrade, machinery frames, structural sections and most of what turns up on a truck. If you are not sure, ring us with a rough size and we will tell you straight away. And if it is getting coated afterwards, the oven takes up to 7 m.

What we blast

  • Trailers, chassis and towbars
  • Gates, fencing, balustrade and handrail
  • Wheels, car parts and restoration work
  • Machinery frames, brackets and structural steel
  • Furniture, both outdoor and inside
  • Anything heading for powder coating that needs stripping first

Why blast before coating

Powder coat is only as good as what is underneath it. Blasting gives the powder a clean, keyed surface to grip, which is the difference between a finish that lasts years and one that lifts at the first chip. If you are having something coated by us, blasting it first is usually money well spent. Blasting on its own is fine too. Plenty of what we blast goes out the door to be painted, galvanised or left bare.
